Work on the new Mitre 10 Mega located at the northern end Three Parks is well underway.
The new 9,000m2 store will be more than double the size of the current Mitre 10 store and will boast an expanded offering for retail and trade customers to meet growing local demand.
Martin Dippie, owner of Mitre 10 Wanaka alongside brother Alan, says “it’s exciting to be getting construction underway as this has been a project five years in the making. The community have been hugely supportive of our store, and we are excited to be giving back by delivering the best home improvement store we can for the Wanaka community.”
The new store will have an extensive garden centre, along with amenities like a Columbus Café and playground for families. The larger footprint will also include showrooms for kitchens, storage and large appliances.
General Manager Mark Watson has been with the company since 2000, steering the store through many transformations and says with “the increase in retail space and fantastic carpark we will continue to enhance our service to the local community.”
With the continued growth of Wanaka, the new store has also been designed to ensure local tradies are well-catered for.
“We have ensured that our trade offering is second to none - a huge 1,000m2 trade and timber yard. This is all about enabling our team to deliver an even better service and product offering to our growing base of trade customers,” says Dippie.
More than five years of planning has gone into the new store. And while it will be twice the size of the current Mitre 10, its footprint won’t be, with the building designed with energy efficient features such as passive heating and solar panels.
